Dumaguete: The Small Town Gem
Dumaguete offers a starkly different rhythm. As a “university town,” it feels youthful yet quiet, with a famous seaside boardwalk (the Rizal Boulevard) that serves as the city’s living room. The expat community is one of the most prominent in the Philippines, creating a social scene that is easy to break into. One of its best features is the proximity to the suburbs of Valencia. Located just 15–20 minutes away at a higher elevation, Valencia is cooler, greener, and home to many expats who want a “mountain-lite” vibe while staying close to the city’s international restaurants and hospitals.
